The History of Union

Union was enacted as a township by the NJ legislature in 1865. The township has always been a farming community that was built on tanning and farming industries but before the farming came to be, the main industry in the area was forging. Union furnace forged cannonballs during the revolutionary war in the 1700s. The township was named after this company who was instrumental in the first settlers in the small community.

The residents of Union Township are very aware of recreational needs of their youth. They are fully aware that in order for kids to grow they need to be active. The parks and recreation committee meets once a month to determine the upcoming needs of the township so that they continue to meet the changing needs of all of their youth. In addition, the park is also home to baseball and little league fields as well as a snack shack.
