History

The community got its name from Thomas Stewart who was a secretary to President George Washington and had purchased property here in 1793.

The Kennedy House and Mill, listed on The National Register of Historic Places, is located on Route 173 near Stewartsville Homes In the 2000 census, the population was near 5,000, so in recent years people have moved away to larger cities for job access.
